Beat the Midday Slump

Ever wonder why the tortoise actually beat the hare? Maybe it had to do with what he ate for lunch that day! If you're prone to low energy levels, you might rethink what you eat at your midday meal. If your plate is full of carbs, you're going to feel sleepy soon! That's because carbohydrates are full of serotonin, a sleep-inducing chemical. A better bet is to bring on the protein. Try peanut butter in celery sticks, a hardboiled egg and tuna salad, or beef chili. The tyrosine in these foods increases your alertness and energy levels big time! Save the bread for that sandwich or the roll with that soup for your evening meal, when you're actually ready to nod off. This simple tweak is easy to make and may have you crawling—quickly—toward a big promotion!
