Business in our society has been built on the capitalistic model which in turn is based--whether we like it or not--on the premise of "survival of the fittest." Unfortunately, the "fittest " in business are often those who lie, cheat, steal, and generally get around the rules. This is not the way it has to be. We as therapists in the mental health field can lead the way as we strive to straddle the fence between being smart business people and conscientious human beings. We can work together and share our ideas. We can attempt to form an atmosphere where we interact from a position of trust--not fear of a lawsuit. An environment where a person's word and a handshake actually mean something--if we don't start, it will never happen.
