What happens when I call 1-800-THERAPIST? "How do I do it?" (Click here to listen to a call)
When the Referral Counselor answers, give the following information: Note: If we receive more than a few calls at once, you may have to leave a message so that we can call you back when one of our referral counselors is free.
Such as, "I have been feeling anxious lately and I would like to talk to someone about it." "My feelings of hopelessness don't seem to be going away, I would like some help." If you are confused, that is okay, just say, "I don't know what to do, can you find me a therapist to help sort things out." The idea is to give the counselor a brief overview so that he or she can attempt to match you with a therapist who is sensitive to your needs and who has experience successfully helping others with similar problems.
I live in Santa Monica, but I want the best therapist, the most experienced therapist in dealing with eating disorders and I am willing to travel anywhere in Los Angeles County.
"I have XYZ insurance and I would like to use that if possible." "I am willing to pay for counseling myself. The cost is not the main issue, I want the best expert to help me." "I need some financial assistance. Do you have someone in my area willing to work with me based on my income?"
If you are uncomfortable about calling, it may be related to your feelings about starting therapy. If you think this might be possible, then click here for help. Take the step toward transforming your life for the better. We can help.
